Mason County Jail Overview
Mason County Jail is operated by the Mason County Sheriff's Office in Shelton, Washington. The county jail holds local custody populations rather than sentenced state-prison inmates. Its roster can include pretrial detainees, people arrested on warrants, failure-to-appear bookings, court commitments, sentenced misdemeanants, probation or parole holds, alternative-sentencing placements, and other local custody entries tied to Mason County courts or agencies.
The official Mason County Sheriff's Office jail page says the jail provides incarceration services for Mason County law-enforcement agencies and is accredited by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. It also reflects a Washington governance split: the Board of County Commissioners is responsible for the physical facility, while the Sheriff operates the jail as chief law-enforcement officer.
The official Mason County Jail page is the Sheriff's source for jail overview and report links.
The jail report links on that source are the public path for current Mason County Jail roster information.
Mason County Jail Capacity, Beds, and Current Population
Mason County Jail capacity requires careful wording because the official statistical source changed fields over time. The 2024 WASPC Annual Jail Statistics workbook reports 93 facility beds for Mason County Sheriff's Office, 56.42 average daily population, 1,122 total admissions, and 17 days average length of stay. Older WASPC reports for 2021 through 2023 listed 68 design or updated design capacity, so the safer reading is that the reported capacity field changed, not that the building necessarily expanded.
The July 2, 2026 Mason County current inmate reports showed 71 roster entries by booking count. That is a current PDF count, not an annual average. It was above the 2024 ADP but below the 2024 facility-bed figure. The public bed labels in the roster included alternative sentencing, maximum lower dormitory, medium lower dormitory, minimum lower dormitory, hold cells, and block or cell labels.
Note: Treat the 68-to-93 capacity difference as a reporting caveat unless a county construction source confirms a building change.
How to Look Up an Inmate at Mason County Jail
Mason County Jail does not use an interactive public inmate search form. The official county lookup channel is a pair of PDF reports hosted by the Sheriff's Office. The Current Inmate List by Permanent Bed shows permanent bed, booking number, name, and time incarcerated. The Current Inmate Offense List by Name shows booking number, name number, book date, release date, statute, offense, court, offense code, and class.
- Open the Current Inmate List by Permanent Bed to confirm the person is currently in Mason County Jail.
- Use the browser PDF find tool and search by last name, then compare the full name and booking number.
- Open the Current Inmate Offense List by Name to review book date, listed offense, court abbreviation, class, and release-date field.
- If the person is not listed, check whether they were released, transferred to DOC, held in another county, in federal custody, or under immigration authority.

The roster does not display mugshots, bond amounts, full demographics, arresting agency, or court dates. Formal charge and hearing details move through court records after filing. For a broader roster walkthrough, use Mason County jail inmate records information.

Booking, Holds, and Court Routing at Mason County Jail
Official county materials do not publish a full booking manual, but the roster fields show the public outline. After an arrest or court commitment, Mason County Jail assigns custody records such as booking number, name number, book date, public bed label, offense, court abbreviation, offense code, and class. RCW 43.43.735 requires photographing and fingerprinting for qualifying felony and gross-misdemeanor arrests, although the public PDFs do not show booking photos.
The roster can show new arrests, warrant arrests, failure-to-appear rows, court commitments, DOC holds, and other authority. District Court and Shelton Municipal Court matters usually involve misdemeanor or lower-court routing, while Superior Court handles felony criminal cases. If a person is convicted and sentenced to state prison, lookup shifts from Mason County Jail to the Washington DOC locator and may involve Washington Corrections Center in Shelton.
Note: The Mason County Jail PDF confirms current local custody, but court and DOC systems control formal case and state-prison status.
Programs and Records Channels at Mason County Jail
The jail FAQ names drug and alcohol classes, alternative sentencing programs, the community inmate labor program, and mental health services. The public roster also uses MAIN-ALT Alternative Sentencing as a housing or status label, which supports alternative sentencing as an operational category. The FAQ does not publish a complete education, grievance, religious-service, or medical-request handbook, so avoid assuming program eligibility from public snippets.
For records beyond the current PDFs, use the Mason County public-records page, the county online portal, or the printable public-records form. Court records must be requested from District Court or the Superior Court Clerk instead of being routed through jail records.
